Yassou! Before they find me, It’s April and I’m in Rhodes, a Greek Dodecanese island. And today I visited Lindos which is filled with pretty white buildings by the beach. It is a city located on the East coast of the island. Only 1.5 hours away from Rhodes town by bus or a 50 minute drive. We took the 9am bus to Lindos which was €5.50 per person, this gave us plenty for time to look around before the last bus.
The town is so small so it was easy to get around. But you should definitely prioritize and go see the acropolis of Lindos, which was built by the Ancient Greeks and is a tribute to the Goddess Athena. Entry is €12 but if you have an EU student card or an EU ID card proving you are under 25, you can enter for free. You will definitely not miss this as the structure can be seen overlooking the city.
Be warned during April many tourist attractions may close early and google is not accurate. We had planned this day trip thinking the acropolis would close at 7 pm but it actually closed at 3:10 pm and because we were a minute late, we weren’t allowed inside. So, unfortunately, we had to take another day’s trip back to Lindos. Don’t make the same mistake as me, and try to go here first. Because you don’t want to run up the mountain just to be sent back down again. At least we managed to fit a short hike on our trip… to burn off all the Greek food we gorged into.
When we finally visited the Acropolis we made the worst decision to come when it was extremely windy. You need to be careful because there aren’t any railings. So please be cautious especially if you are bringing children. But it’s all worth it because the view was magnificent. The sky and the ocean stretched infinitely into the horizon and I wished I could see the view during an orange and pink candy floss sunset. I always take a moment to take in everything and it felt like I could see the whole of Rhodes from this point.
After going to the acropolis we found a nearby restaurant with a view overlooking the beach. Lindos has plenty of rooftop cafes, bars, and restaurants with wonderful views. All you need is a cocktail in your hand and a selection of Greek dishes. Enjoy the weather, enjoy the sun, you deserve this. Don’t forget to bring cash because there are plenty of souvenir shops with handmade gifts you can bring back home.
Even though hummus is also found in the UK, the Greek style is far more delicious. I was easily addicted, eating this every day.
There is a beautiful sandy beach in the city of Lindos. It’s very humid and we had a relaxing time dipping in the sea. Beach beds could be rented for €5 per person and as long as you sit down someone will come up to collect the fee. We just used a towel and placed it on the sand, a result of wanting to budget. But I assume, during summer they increase the prices for the sunbeds so I think it’s up to the person if they think it’s worth it. At the beach, there are water activities you can take part in such as kayaking. That’s why I really recommend this beach for families, you can’t run out of things to do and the waves aren’t harsh.
The large downside of going to Rhodes in April was the last buses would always be early, for Lindos this was 6 pm. Even though it was relatively later compared to other bus services, I would have enjoyed more time at the beach. I really need to get myself a driving license.
Let me know how your travels go!
Safe travels, love
~Maria
I really liked this blog! Lindos seems like a nice place to visit. What was your favourite activity in Lindos, and if you would come back, what else you would do there or what would you do again?
