Before they find me, I’m visiting the branch of Eataly beside Liverpool Street station in London and the one-stop place to eat and shop for Italian food.
Italian cuisine is by no means difficult to find as it is loved all over the world, but is there a place in London which can offer this for an affordable price? I couldn’t recommend Eataly enough if you love Italy.
There are two floors to the store. On the ground floor, you can buy ready-made pasta or pizza to eat at the bar. There is a large Gelato island nest to the entrance where you can also buy some coffee. I had ordered pistachio ice cream because it was my favourite, and it did not disappoint. The cream was a beautiful creamy dessert with balanced flavours, melting right on my tongue. Don’t forget to pick up the tiramisu off the shelf to indulge in this delicious dessert when you get home.
There is a large selection of decently priced wine on the first floor. There is a supermarket selling fresh fruit, vegetables and many other Italian products. This is also where the restaurant is located. Every time I come to eat here, a booking is recommended as the restaurant is usually full. But that is a good indicator of delicious food.
The first time I came here, I ordered their TARTUFO E FUNGHI which had a fluffy dough sprinkled with truffle ricotta, mushrooms, parmigiana and a drizzle of truffle oil. This time I ordered the Chitarrina Cozze E Vongole alla grande to share with my friend. This is a simple dish of spaghetti with clams and a mixture of garlic, white wine and infused with chillis. I highly recommend trying this Italian classic. And this was perfect to pair with a glass of GAVI DI GAVI DOCG white.
Overall, the prices are very reasonable, especially with the quality of the food and the cosy ambience. For a shared starter, a glass of wine and the pasta dishes I paid £37.50 including a 12.5% service charge. The Gelato on the ground floor was for £2. I definitely recommend this restaurant and would return again. My rating would be 8/10!
